Choosing between the two main horseback riding disciplines—English and Western—can be a bit overwhelming for newbies wanting to get into horses or take their first riding lesson. The most obvious difference between the two is the tack, particularly the saddle. Each type of saddle has a seat and accessories designed specifically for that.. A rider might choose to pursue pleasure or equitation at a higher level (such as thorough AQHA, APHA, etc), or might use these shows as the foundation for something different. A more advanced rider might choose something such as hunter/jumper, dressage, or rodeo. To start off their hunter/jumper or dressage career, one might enter schooling.
